Each Piece of this design follows a defined grammar. The sturdy rooks are designed to look like solid castles with impregnable walls, pawns are made to look minimalist with slim collars, bishops with simple mitres, the tall elegant king readily distinguished by its cross and the queen has a distinctive coronet. Showstoppers of the set, Knight are inspired by the horses in the Elgin Marbles from the Athenian Parthenon. The timeless beauty and the utility of these staunton pattern chessmen has made it the set of choice for players and a highly prized design for collectors.
