This was known as the New Poor Law, replacing the Old Poor law of 1601. The Poor Laws was a tax on property imposed in each parish, used to try and relieve poverty. This work analyses how the Poor Laws protected that poor, and how the law actually worked in providing relief to the poor. With the bookplate of Riccardo Bachi to the front pastedown.
