1830 Book of Mormon Replica, 1833 Book of Commandments – "STANDARD SET" by BLAKE

Description: ALL FOUR SCIPTURES of the EARLY RESTORATION:”1830 (First Edition) Book of Mormon,””1833 (Only Edition) Book of Commandments,””1835 (First Edition) Doctrine & Covenants,””1835 (First Edition) Hymn Book” (first hymn book of the Restoration!). Includes the Book of Mormon in leather and the three smaller books in regular hardcover. (Note: This same set is less than half price than the PREMIER SET, which has PIGSKIN BINDING for the 3 smaller books.) These 4 books are detailed below: 1830 Book of Mormon "SIGNATURES EDITION," with the accurate signatures of Joseph Smith and the 11 Witnesses, recreated by artisan Steve Blake. LEATHERBOUND. This is an exact replica of the 1830 First Edition text – handcrafted and stitched -- like the originals two centuries ago. It is painstakingly antiqued by master book craftsman Steve Blake. He skillfully begins with the best printed replica on the market – the one from Stratford Books / Grandin Artisans. (He has evaluated all replica brands carefully – and proved through testing that the Stratford/Grandin version is the best by far – it has the best paper, ink, and most accurate features to the ORIGINAL First Edition two centuries ago.) He then professionally ages the books. The text inside the book has EVERY detail that the original 1830 had – Pages of an original 1830 were scanned with the highest clarity per the high-grade Stratford / Grandin replica to create the authentic text.He then professionally ages the books, giving each a unique, antique look and feel, almost exactly like originals in 1830, which now sell for over $100,000 each. Those originals are among the most sought-after and expensive books in American Printing history. 1833 BOOK OF COMMANDMENTS (the only forerunner to the D&C). BOUND IN HARDCOVER, It includes JOSEPH SMITH'S SIGNATURE, accurately recreated by artisan Steve Blake. This is the earliest published volume to contain the revelations of Joseph Smith, and includes most up to 1833.This aged masterpiece by book craftsman Steve Blake is bound in authentic pigskin, the most beautiful leather of all, and the toughest of the four types used in book-binding by early Latter-day Saints. It also requires a more difficult process to age and bind.A remarkable, rich history is behind this book, including two little girls who saved the press sheets in a corn field with a mob chasing them. The mob attacked and destroyed the print house, then chased the girls, who escaped.Note that more revelations were planned to be published before the mob attack, but this version is what WAS ACTUALLY published and bound as the original Book of Commandments, ending at page 160, mid-revelation.Surviving copies of the original edition – as EXACTLY CONSTITUTED HERE – are valued at over $1 million – one of the most expensive books in the world. The original cost was 25 cents. Two reasons for the skyrocketing value: 1) early Latter-day Saint scripture is highly sought after, and 2) only 29 copies exist today from the saved press sheets. Of those, 20 are held permanently by museums and libraries, and the other 9 are owned privately. Those 9 are rarely offered for sale – the last one sold for over $1.2 million. It's small size is accurate to the original: 4¾” x 3¼”. For the text inside the book, it has EVERY detail that the original 1833 had: Pages of an original 1833 were accurately scanned, creating the same size and original type. 1835 First Edition DOCTRINE & COVENANTS. BOUND IN HARDCOVER, it also includes JOSEPH SMITH'S SIGNATURE, accurately recreated by artisan Steve Blake. This aged masterpiece by book craftsman Steve Blake is bound in authentic pigskin, the most beautiful leather of all, and the toughest of the four types used in book-binding by early Latter-day Saints. It also requires a more difficult process to age and bind. This 4 x 6” book was first published in 1835, coming immediately after the 1833 Book of Commandments above, with added revelations. It is also bound in pigskin – the most beautiful of all leathers and the toughest of the four types used in book-binding by early Latter-day Saints. 1835 First Edition Hymn Book, compiled by EMMA SMITH. BOUND IN HARDCOVER, it includes EMMA SMITH'S SIGNATURE, accurately recreated by artisan Steve Blake. This aged masterpiece by book craftsman Steve Blake is bound in authentic pigskin, the most beautiful leather of all, and the toughest of the four types used in book-binding by early Latter-day Saints. It also requires a more difficult process to age and bind. Its small size is accurate to the original: 4½ x 3”. In July 1830 Joseph received a revelation for his wife Emma to make a collection of hymns for the Church. Due to persecutions she was not able to fulfill this assignment for several years. In the meantime, several Saints continued to write, arrange, and collect hymns – Pratt, Phelps, Clayton – a veritable “who's who” of early church music writers. Finally in 1835 the book was published by W. W. Phelps in Kirtland, Ohio.Note that music was not published in this earliest edition of Church hymns – only lyrics were, and this book is exactly like the original, as published. For the text inside the book, it has EVERY detail that the original 1835 had: Pages of an original were highly accurately scanned, creating the same size and original type.(Note: An original 1835 edition even without her signature sells for over $500,000 today.) ABOUT THE BOOKSPhotos here are representative of copies different than what you will receive, because each has a unique pattern of color and texture – all looking different from each other because of the way they've aged.No two books are alike, yet all have the appearance of age and wear. Some pages may have bends or crinkles as part of the aging process, but this does not affect the value or integrity of the book, and actually enhances it.Each book is signed by artist Steve Blake in real gold ink on a back page, with a small embossed circle, as well, to differentiate it from the original 1830 book.Because of the handcrafted nature, each is a unique work of art.“Working on each book is very personal to me,” says Steve Blake. “Every book seems to have its own 'personality.'” Each one is beautiful and unusual. This set serves as a conversation-starter – all 4 books are the PREMIER WORK OF THE EARLY RESTORATION to show others. People often display it prominently for family and friends at home and work, and provide it as very special, one-of-a-lifetime type of gift. WHO IS STEVE BLAKE?A specialist in Art Restoration, Steve restores antiques of all kinds, particularly Fine Art pieces. He also specializes in leather. As a volunteer for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in restoring old documents, his replicas are displayed in the Museum of Church History and Art in Salt Lake City.“The replicas enable people to see and touch the books – they can turn the pages and smell the leather,” he says, “not possible with the originals, because many are so fragile. But now they can know what it is like to experience those original first editions that were read and loved by the pioneers.” FINAL POINTExperience the Restoration ON A WHOLE NEW LEVEL – what early Latter-day Saints sacrificed for. Not only the original editions but these hand-crafted replicas are becoming rare treasures in old-style craftsmanship!c. 2021-2023 Trainguy
