BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Foyers (Scottish Gaelic: Foithir, meaning "shelving slope") is a village in the Highland of Scotland, lying on the east shore of Loch Ness. The village is situated on the B852, part of the Military Road built by General George Wade, 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Fort Augustus. Foyers is also the name of the river which runs nearby into the Loch, which has two waterfalls, one of 27 metres (89 ft) and the other 9 metres (30 ft), known as the Falls of Foyers. The river rises to the south of Whitebridge in the Glendoe Forest and flows until it joins Loch Ness. There are two waterfalls on the river the upper one being thirty foot in height, the lower ninety foot. The poet Robert Burns wrote the following poem in 1787 and entitled it ‘The Falls of the Fyers’. Please explore my ebay shop for more antique prints. Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
