Description: I have here for sale 2 VOLUMES of JOHN MILTON'S PARADISE REGAINED, beautifully bound in full calf leather with diamond inlay style decoration with points gilt embossed. 1. Samson Agonistes, Comus and Arcades 2. The Minor Poems Published by JOHN SHARPE, London in 1817. With 10 engraved illustrations through both the volumes.The engraved plates are all dated 1816. The title pages are dated 1817.The engraved titles, all after Westall and dated 1816, are by Engleheart (Vol. I: Paradise Regained) and Rhodes (Vol. II: Minor Poems). The fine engraved and captioned plates are also after Westall and dated 1816. In the first volume, the plates stand before Paradise Lost (Finden), Samson Agonistes (Romney) and Comus (Heath); in the second, the plates stand before Lycidas (Engleheart), L'Allegro (Heath), Il Penseroso (Mitan), Sonnets (Heath) and Odes (Finden).In the first volume Paradise Regained is paginated by line number only; the other works (including Arcades) are all separately paginated. In the second volume the pagination is continuous (including the Index) As I say very nicely bound - Spine edges are a little rubbed, and cracks to the edges. The boards have been reinforced, from the inside. Board corners are bumped. Marbled fore-edges. Foxing to the front section of the second volume. Stain to the front board. Generally in good condition. 17cm x 11cm. Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped. To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :) My main posting days are Monday and Thursday ie.
