The 'Chronicles' are one of the most important sources on the first half of the year, recounting in vivid detail the events of Western Europe during this period, mainly focussing on England, France, Scotland, the Low Countries and the Iberian Peninsula.Froissart was a medieval author and court historical in the fourteenth century. He is best known for this work, and for 'Melidor', an Arthurian romance'.This edition was translated into English by John Bourchier.Including a copious index, as well as the names of places and people corrected, with obsolete words modernised. Label of the Repton School Library to the front paste downs, this set presented to the library by Reverend A. Forman in 1902. CONDITION In a half diced calf binding with paper to the boards. Externally, a little worn, with some rubbing to the boards and spines. Light bumping to the extremities, and to the head and tail of the spines. A few light marks to the boards and spines, and some light spots to the boards. Spines are a little faded. A small amount of loss of leather to the fore edge of the front board of Volume I. A small amount of loss to the tail of the spine of Volume II. Loss of paper to the front board of Volume III, and to the boards of Volume IV. Front joints of Volumes I and III are starting but firm, rear joints are cracked. Front joint of Volume II is starting, rear joint and hinge are tender. Front joint of Volume IV is strained, rear joint is cracked. Hinges are strained. Library label to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and generally clean with some scattered spots, heavier to the first and last few pages. Library stamp to the head of the title pages.
