1808 Coin East India Company Possible Admiral Gardner (see description) Nice

Description: This is a nice and possible 1808 Admiral Gardner coin reported to be recovered from a shipwreck. This coin does not come with certification. The Admiral Gardner shipwreck coins are copper coins minted in 1808 in Birmingham, England for the British East India Company (EIC). They are some of the first coins in the world to be minted using steam power at the Soho Mint. The coins are 10 Cash denomination and weigh around 4.6 grams. The obverse of the coin features two lions with a shield in between and the date 1808 below. The Admiral Gardner was wrecked on January 25, 1809, off South Foreland on the Goodwin Sands, a part of the Thames Estuary. The ship was named after Alan Gardner, the first Baron Gardner, who had a distinguished naval career before becoming a Member of Parliament in 1796. One of the most notable finds from the shipwreck was an intact barrel that was estimated to contain 28,000 coins. The ship was recovered in 1985. This coin is an excellent piece for collectors and history enthusiasts. 1224
