Description: Up for your consideration is an outstanding antique Austrian silver table snuff box in an oval form with an Austrian date hallmark of 1806. This snuff box features a lovely repoussé classical design of youth playing with and pushing a stubborn ram (on the lid), a band of bell flowers (below the lid), and a floral designs with musical instruments (bordering the base). The bottom of this snuff box bears a worn Austrian date hallmark of 1806 (that much is clear) as well as presumably the maker's mark, "H" (which has yet to be researched and attributed to a particular Austrian silversmith). The date hallmark would also have likely shown the town/assay identification letter and the silver purity (but those are too worn to make out). This snuff box is made of solid silver and is either 12 loth (corresponding to 750/1000 silver), 13 loth (812/1000 silver), 14 loth (875/1000 silver) or 15 loth (937/1000 silver). I don't have anything to test it. The hinge of this snuff box is strong and the lid closes securely with no rattle. The inside of the lid appears to have some of the original interior gilding. Overall, this is an exceptional and beautiful piece (and in great condition for being over 200 years old)! This silver snuff box weights 3.44 troy ounces (107 grams) and measures approx. 3 15/16 inches (100mm) in length, 2 1/4 inches (57mm) in width, and 1 5/32 inches (29mm) in height.
