Description: Handsome antique Kutani covered bowl, Japan, circa 1870–1890, porcelain footed form with two handles and domed lid, hand painted in varying shades of iron red black, and tan with gilt detailing, the body featuring floral (chrysanthemum), foliate, geometric motifs, and four reserves with characters for Tianqing, twelve years, six years, and Shohei ju, the lid with two large reserves depicting a seated woman and small child and chrysanthemums, approx. 7-1/4" tall by 8" wide overall (including handles), the underside with Kutani mark. Lid with old glue repairs (more visible to interior than exterior; tiny related chip to bottom edge; a few tiny chips to inner flange); light scattered wear to decoration; otherwise very good, attractive condition overall, with no cracks, chips, or losses to body. A striking, authentic period example, handsome for display or use. IMPORTANT NOTE ON SHIPPING—PLEASE READ.
