Description: Two volume edition of Henry Fielding’s picaresque novel, “The Adventures of Joseph Andrews and his friend, Mr. Abraham Adams” in very good condition. Marble boards are scuffed with missing color front and back; leather spine is in good condition with an embossed decoration running the length of the book. There is some loss of dye at the hinges, the corners are bent with some scuffing and loss of color. The occasional foxing occurs and there are pages with corners bent. Illustrations are intact: two in volume one by Richard Corbould and one in volume two by H. Hamilton. There are also an abundance of publisher’s flourishes at the ends of chapters in the form of flowers and garlands. No date in books; dated by the publisher’s address, which, according to the British Museum, was at #17 Paternoster Row in 1792, then moved to #15. The name of a previous owner is inside both volumes.
