Description: This antique pocket watch dates back to the late 1790s. Inscription on the dial and the movement "Paradis A Jennappe" refer to the Battle of Jennappe / Jemappe which took place in the year 1792, making it a true piece of history. Jennappe is also spelled in many history books as the Jemappes The Battle of Jemappes (6 November 1792) took place near the town of Jemappes in Hainaut, Austrian Netherlands (now Belgium), near Mons during the War of the First Coalition, part of the French Revolutionary Wars. One of the first major offensive battles of the war, it was a victory for the armies of the infant French Republic, and saw the French Armée du Nord, which included many inexperienced volunteers, defeat a substantially smaller regular Austrian army. This is a commemorative watch to honor those who have died in one of the earliest battles of the french revolutionary wars. The watch is a fusee type, and has been well-preserved over the years (Working condition - Check video). It would make a great addition to any collection of pocket watches or historical artifacts.
