Duff's handwritten note to the recto to the front endpaper, 'This book was written by my great great grandfather Colonel James Cuninghame of Balbogie in Fifeshire. He entered the Scots Bridage in the Dutch Service in 1742 and became Lieutenant Colonel in 1776. The estate of Balbogie was sold by Sir Mountstuart Grand Duff + now belongs to Lady Buckinghamshire. This book was purchased from Brown of Edinburgh May 1907'. ESTC citation number T48745.In a signed binding by William Brown, Edinburgh.A series of letters detailing the author's military experiences and opinions.Written by James Cuninghame, Bound without the final advertisement leaf.Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper, detailing an extract from Grant Duff's diaries on the 4th December 1862. CONDITION In a full calf binding by William Brown, Edinburgh. Externally, smart. Light marks and rubbing to the boards and spine. Front hinge is starting but firm. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper and to the recto to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots.
