Numerous abrasions to surface of leather. 1” tear to head of spine at left. Antiquarian spine label adhered to spine compartment. Old hand notations on rear of second fly ,rear pastedown and end papers. Title page of Psalms is torn with loss of text, chipped and soiled. Internally toned with scattered ages staining and instances of dampness staining. 7 pp of Hymns is torn at gutter, no loss of text. Puncture marks on rear fly spelling out a Bush family name. Bush family members on verso of Hymnal. Stated family member names include Sarah Bush born 1785, Elizabeth Bush born 1784, Jacob Bush born 1788, Deborah Bush born 1790, Rachel Bush born 1793, Samuel Bush born 1783, Daniel Bush born 1790. Binding intact. Please see photos. Issac Watts (1674-1748) is considered the father of English hymnody. This version printed in Colonial Boston features the hymn dedicated to the coronation of George III. This was later changed after the American Revolution by Ezra Stiles President of Yale College.
