Collated, complete.The first volume only of a four volume work.This volume includes poems on several occasions, 'Rosamond, an Opera', 'Notes on Some of the Stories in Ovid's Metamorphoses', 'An Essay on Virgil's Georgics', 'Cato', 'Poemata', and 'Dialogues Upon the Usefulness of Ancient Medals'.Addison is best known for his working relationship with Richard Steele, with whom he founded 'The Spectator' magazine. Addison and Steele founded several publications during their friendship, including the literary and social journal ‘Tatler’, which published from 1709 to 1711.His most famous work was 'Cato, a Tragedy', a successful play about Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis. ESTC Citation No. N24149 CONDITION Rebound in quarter calf, with marbled paper covered boards, and endpapers renewed. Fading to spine, otherwise externally excellent. Tail of front hinge strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Frontispiece neatly restored to gutter. Pages generally clean and bright, with instances of light spotting.
