Duëz came from a Huguenot family. He studied in Strasbourg and, after extensive travels through Italy, France, Germany and England, settled in Leiden in 1635 as a master of Italian, French and German, from where he published numerous successful language textbooks until 1669. Nothing is known about his subsequent whereabouts.
