The horizontal branches tips tend to curve down, giving the tree a graceful, lacy effect. With narrow lobes cut almost to the mid-vein, the leaves of this 4-6' maple might resemble those of bamboo, except for their colorfulness. Opening deep-red-orange, maturing to a bronzy-green. The fall color is a bright red. Plant Uses: Bonsai-Suitable;Height: 8' tall Spread: 8' wide Zone: 6 - 9 Medicinal use : None known Edible parts of Japanese Maple: The sap contains a certain amount of sugar and can either be used as a drink, or can be concentrated into a syrup by boiling off the water.
