While solenoid valves require large amounts of power to hold position, ball valves do not have this large power requirement. The Red wire hooks up to positive (hot) while the Black wire connects to negative (ground). The Green wire is connected to the positive through an inline switch, relay or controller. When both the Green and Red wires are energized, the valve opens. When the Red wire is energized and the Green wire is not energized, the valve closes. These are full port valves where flow is not restricted. This ball valve is bidirectional, allowing for flow in both directions without issue. It is also slow closing, taking 4-5 seconds to completely open/close, eliminating any potential water hammer effect. The actuator is IP67 rated, the NEMA 4 equivalent, making this valve acceptable for outdoor use. While splash resistant, the valve should not be submerged in water.
