Description: 11X14 Soft Focus is normally "unobtainium"! Prices are stratospheric! You can choose from an 18" Cooke Portronic Knuckler that is slower than this lens but has a 5 figure price, or maybe a 16" Pinkham Smith if you can find one, also 5 figure, or much more realistically an 18" Wollensak Verito that doesn't quite cover unless it has the 22" extension. 4 figures with the extension. The closest possible thing to this lens is the Wollensak Velostigmat 11X14 but it will be high 3 figures for a copy. By comparison in rarity, this lens is much closer to the Portronic or Pinkham. Ilex just didn't sell lenses in numbers like Wolly did. This example is not perfect but actually very decent for it's 100 years +. The flange is missing, so that takes some effort on your part. Cut a very tight hole in a wood board and thread it into the 'wood'. Not hard. Or pay for a new flange to be made. Or pay a machinist to cut a matching thread in a metal lens board. The 0 - 5 diffusion works effortlessly. And the aperture turns very smoothly with very little effort. It is dirty inside from 100 years. But my advice is just use it. Don't start boogering things trying to take it apart. Perfectionism is the death of creativity. This lens is ready to make delicious pictures just the way it is. Leave it alone. But by all means, buy it. Rare as hens teeth.
