The Cobra was based on the British AC Ace car and Shelby stuffed a massive Ford 427 V8 into it. The Cobra produced 410 horsepower with 480 foot/pounds of torque. It was a front engine, rear drive car with a Borg Warner four speed manual transmission. The engine was topped off with a Holley 780 four-barrel carburetor. The Cobra could go from 0 - 60 in 4.2 seconds and complete a quarter mile in 12.4 seconds. The Cobra came with twin side pipes that generated a thunderous roar when the engine was running.
