To learn more about crewelwork please see below* ITEM SPECIFIC : This textile is a crewelwork masterpiece ~ ~ this panel is a vintage crewelwork panel handmade , all handstitched on hand woven cotton ground. The tone of the ground is natural and the other wonderful colors are : pinks deep burgundy red , greens and very dark blue ~ this textile dates from 1950-1960's or a bit earlier, difficult to say exactly. This textile is backed in cotton ~ This is a wonderful textile and would be super used as a bedcover, curtain, curtains! ( easy to make more than one curtain from these large crewelwork pieces , Tablecloth , Wall-hanging behind a bed or in a living area ~ shower curtain ( just use a clear or white plastic shower curtain first ) ~ So many uses! MEASUREMENTS: This textile measures approximately : 100 inches wide by 82 inches long ~ CONDITION: This textile is in as found, not freshly laundered condition. This textile is dry clean only as to prevent the wool threads from possibly running! It's in really really lovely condition ~ a few very small pale marks ~ just fabulous *Crewel work is a style of embroidery using thick, worsted wool yarn. Any type of stitch can be used for crewel. One of the loveliest aspects of crewelwork is that the stitches are so various! The Bayeux Tapestry is the oldest known example of crewel work dating back to 1077~ In the mid-1500s, Queen Elizabeth I, who was known as an accomplished stitcher, established an embroidery guild that established rules and standards for high-quality crewel work. From there, crewel became very popular in 17th-century England and its American colonies.
