In Asian or Taiwan, it is known as pineapple sugar apple, 菠萝释迦. Atemoya produces round or heart-shaped cherimoya fruits. But my variety produces heart-shaped fruits with a delicate and bumpy skin cherimoya cultivar in American tropics or sub-tropics. Scientifically known as Annona × atemoya (annona squamosa atemoya), this variety is a cross of A. squamosa and A. cherimola –the cherimoya and the sugar-apple. It is also self-pollinating but hand pollination is often needed to produce high quality atemoya fruits. This variety is best variety in Asia or Taiwan which is also referred to or as the pineapple sugar apple. My variety in Los Angeles area blossoms from May to end of June, harvests during late fall from Jan to Feb. Fruits are very large with sweet, white, cream, great taste. If you are looking for a cherimoya or atemoya, my variety will be your first choice. if you expect to have fresh fruits during Oct to Dec, then, you might add a El Bumble cherimoya which is available in my store.
